INTRODUCTION

Baatlegi ba Morena Gospel Choir and Community Development is a clap and tap music choir for any resident around Taung who is having an interest and passion of clap and tap. It is situated in Taung at Mokgareng village, house no. 388M Ditompong Section under the leadership of Mr. Mokaiemang Barkley Moreane. BMGC & Community Development wears white, royal blue and red colours. It is working together with the community of Taung whereby it has a large number of supporters from the community who are rallying behind the choir and giving the necessary support. 

BACKGROUND

BMGC & Comm Dev. was formed in February 2017 after Mr Tshidiso Moreane recognised that the talent is roaming on the streets and most of them were spending their spare time at the foreigners` shops and being involved in crime activities like abusing substance. It started with 12 Members and now has grown in a satisfying number of 90 members whom are dedicated and almost all areas of Taung are represented in this choir. The aim of this choir is to represent Taung and Dr. RSM District.

ACHIEVEMENT'S

The choir has managed to pull youth from the streets. Managed to spot talent amongst the community. Together with the Dept. of CATA, we managed to host a very successful gospel festival on the 11th March 2018. With the assistance of the Mayor`s office Taung, the choir managed to host 16 June 2018 Youth Celebration. The choir was invited at Kimberley Northern Cape for CD launch of one of the biggest choir in the Northern Cape and the choir represented Taung and the District very well. During free weekends, the choir goes to places like hospital, NGO`s and town to sing for free for the people of Taung in order to market the choir , heal spiritually and to attract young people. The choir is not only based on gospel, it assists those who have various talents like traditional dances, poet, solo artists and we accommodate all types of talents. The choir has managed to record the first CD, titled “ FA GO LE THATA” assisted by Dept. of CATA in Taung. We have managed to host one of the biggest choir in South Africa from Gauteng Province and that choir is an award winning choir in the gospel category clap and tap music ( Isaac and the Mighty Messengers). The choir has managed to shoot five (05) music videos which are currently playing on the television nation wide.

In this season the choir has managed to succeed the following: The choir performed at the Provincial event:- Taung Cultural Calabash in September 2018. We hosted three biggest choirs (Lejwe la Motheo, Isaac & The Mighty Messengers and Together as One) in South Africa from Gauteng Province through a very successful night show. The choir was invited at the prayer session by ANC for National Elections and indeed the ANC won the votes. BMGC is been nominated in three categories for Indigenous Gospel Music Awards (IGMA) (nationwide) held in 22 September 2019 and won two (02) awards. The choir has travelled to places like Kimberley & Kuruman in Northern Cape, Rustenburg and Mahikeng to praise with other clap & tap choirs. We were invited to perform at a wedding celebration of Mr & Mrs Maruping in Taung. The choir also performed at a thanks giving feast of Mr Moreane, the choir president. The choir blessed a new uniform in August 2019 when praising together with Together as One Gospel Choir

After the challenges that affected the country due to COVID 19, the choir managed to face the world again and entered into the CATA Gospel competition for Bophirima District and won the first position.
